چکیده

Collision of laser-driven subrelativistic high-density ion flows provides a way to create extremely compressed conglomerates and study their properties. This paper presents theoretical the electrodynamic implosion ions inside hollow spherical or cylindrical shell irradiated by femtosecond petawatt laser pulses. We propose apply very effective mechanism for acceleration in self-consistent field with strong charge separation, based on oscillation laser-accelerated fast electrons this near thin shell. Fast are generated outer side under irradiation intense It is shown that ions, particular protons, may be accelerated at stage energies tens hundreds MeV when sub-micrometer pulses an intensity 1021–1023 W cm−2.

Proton radiography of a laser-driven implosion.

Protons accelerated by a picosecond laser pulse have been used to radiograph a 500 microm diameter capsule, imploded with 300 J of laser light in 6 symmetrically incident beams of wavelength 1.054 microm and pulse length 1 ns. Point projection proton backlighting was used to characterize the density gradients at discrete times through the implosion. Asymmetries were diagnosed both during the ea...

Implosion of indirectly driven reentrant-cone shell target.

We have examined the implosion of an indirectly driven reentrant-cone shell target to clarify the issues attendant on compressing fuel for a fast ignition target. The target design is the hydrodynamic equivalent of a NIF cryoignition target scaled to be driven by Omega. Implosions were imaged with backlit x radiographs and modeled with LASNEX. The simulations were generally in good agreement wi...

Laser cooling of fast stored ions in barrier buckets

We apply novel bunch forms for e$cient laser cooling of fast stored ion beams at the Heidelberg Test Storage Ring. 9Be` ions are longitudinally con"ned in barrier buckets providing free motion of the cooled ions inside the bucket (quasi-coasting beam). The implementation of laser cooling in barrier buckets is described, and longitudinal dynamics of laser cooling is compared to electron cooling....

High-convergence implosion experiments have been performed on the Omega laser facility [T.R. Boehly, Opt.
